My love of the scriptures began when I was a child. I was raised in a family that honored God and we attended the Presbyterian Church. I was very active growing up in that church and was a member of the youth choir, taught Bible School and helped in the nursery.
I had a grandmother who belonged to the Church of the Brethren and she strongly influenced my religious life. She gave me a little white Bible (see photo) for my 7th birthday because she said that if I was learning to read, that I should learn to read the word of God. She set a good example for me by studying her scriptures every day and marking them. My first little white Bible is marked in red crayon because I wanted to do what my grandmother did.
I have duplicated this gift by giving my grandchildren a set of scriptures on their 7th birthdays. I hope that all my children and grandchildren will learn to love the scriptures and perpetuate this as a family tradition. I am thankful for a grandmother who set such a beautiful example for me as a follower of Christ.
